The main object of Sunner Solar Research and Development is to build the best foundation for the sustainability and continuous growth in the emerging PV industry. Sunner Solar will also make strategic alliances with its partners along the PV supply chains in order to strengthen the competitiveness of Taiwan PV industry. Furthermore, by combing PV with the latest development of other renewable energy technologies, we make efforts to replace the traditional fossil fuels by clean energy and reduce the carbon footprint to save the earth. Higher efficiency and lower cost PV products will help to realize the goal and object.
In order to achieve sustainability, R&D department has set the following goals,
(1) lower production cost for silicon thin-film PV modules
(2) increase module efficiency to a higher level
(3) add values to original product and broaden module applications
(4) low cost, high efficiency solar cells
Sunner Solar would also like to train professional personnel by our dedicated research program in order to make Taiwan as a leading role in the PV research and development.
There are about 170 employees in Sunner Solar, and the R&D department is in a critical position which consists more than 10% of the total employees. We have also invited 3 well-known professionals from named universities to be our R&D advisors. Next year, we will invest 200 million NTD as the R&D funding.
Within a year, Sunner Solar plans to expand its research team to a size of 20 and continue to execute all the research plans and cooperate with institutes to develop a-Si and microcrystalline silicon tandem thin-film, AZP thin-film and high efficiency TiO2 cotaing technologies in order to increase the thin-film products efficiency and competitiveness. The short-term goal is to develop products with efficiency of 10% and mid-term goal is to apply thin-film poly silicon as the high efficiency solar cells.
